If you suffered injuries while you were working, you may find that the effects of your accident go far beyond the pain you are feeling. In addition to the physical damage you experienced, you could also find yourself with medical bills, future medical needs and financial difficulty that comes after missing work for recovery. It is critical for you and your California family to secure benefits through a workers’ compensation claim.  The workers’ comp insurance system will not prioritize your needs over its own bottom line. Even with a valid claim, you may receive notice that your request for benefits was not successful. While a denied claim is frustrating, there are still options available to you. You may continue your pursuit of benefits through the appeals process.  Find out why  It will be critical to first identify why your claim came back denied. This will provide insight into how you should move forward and what additional evidence will be necessary to prove you have a valid claim. Common reasons for denial include the following:  You did not report the injury to your employer within the required amount of time.  You did not file the claim within the required window of time.  The claim did not include enough medical evidence to validate the claim.  There is not enough evidence to prove the injury is related to your work.  You did not include evidence to prove the injury was compensable or required medical treatment.  Your employer is disputing the claim.  Appealing the denied claim starts by finding out why, and then you may find it beneficial to discuss the matter with your employer to ensure the issue was not the result of a clerical error or misunderstanding. After this, you can begin gathering the additional documentation and medical evidence necessary to prove your claim is valid.   Don’t give up  A denied workers’ compensation claim is a setback, and while frustrating, you do not have to give up. With patience and perseverance, you may be able to claim the financial support you need to get better and move forward after a work accident. Through workers’ comp insurance, you may be able to secure coverage of your medical bills, recovery of some of your lost wages and help for returning to the workplace.
